WALKING WEDNESDAY IS TOMORROW
PICTURES AND REPORTS

ADVENTURERS APPLEPALOOZA
The PreK and kindergarten teams associated with the Adventurers gathered in Ms. Bachand's and Mr. Lewis' classrooms for a mega-apple celebration. It is the apple harvest time-period of the year and Vermont is an excellent place to grow apples.

Students made lots of apple-related art and got to peel and chop apples, taste fresh apple sauce, and try an apple dessert. Mentors from 7th and 8th grades were present to assist the primary instructors. It was a very successful festive event. The pictures captured came from the last 15 minutes of the event.  LINK TO 35 PICTURES

STONE SOUP
Various kindergarten classrooms planted vegetables at the end of the last school year and this year the current PreK and kindergarten students are harvesting the produce. They are making stone soup with what they picked (learn about the stone soup story on Wikipedia). Making stone soup is an important farm-to-school experience for our youngest students. Planting, harvesting and preparing a meal on-site establishes the connection between growing and eating healthy food.

This group of harvesting pictures was taken a week ago (Williams and Barker). 21 previously unpublished pictures were just added to the album. There was one particularly fun moment with Mr. Barker's group worth recounting. When Mrs. Smith was showing students how to harvest celery she handed out several stalks of celery to nearby students. Then, as she was bending down to get more, those students started shaking the dew droplets from the stalks onto her. Mrs. Smith decided to give every student a celery wand so that they could then give her and each other a celery droplet shower. Lots of joyful laughter accompanied the shower.

THE ELM STREET (HOUGHTON PARK) WALKING SCHOOL BUS ROUTE WELCOMES MORE WALKERS

There is a really strong group of student walking leaders on this route and they want more people to join them. They walk to school every school day. At least two students lead the front of the group while two stay in the rear to make sure no one is left behind. Consider taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy some good social time while getting some easy exercise walking to school. You will arrive at school in about the same time it takes to bus there.

FIRE ENGINE VISIT

PreK and Kindergarten students stepped out to the front of the building and got a tour of one of the St. Albans Firetrucks. Since it was raining, clusters of three students and an adult took turns walking out to the truck and examining its interior. The rest waited patiently on the steps for their turn to be lifted up and into the truck. These pictures came from Ms. Stanton's classroom group.

CONNECTIONS
Ms. Patty kindly shared some pictures of her students.

OPPORTUNITY FOR 6/7/8th GRADE GIRLS

St. Albans City School continues
with the 50th Birthday Celebration

In 1970 Mrs. Lamb was a 7th-grade student here at City School. She remembers a time capsule being placed behind the 1968 stone during the school dedication ceremony. After some research, we did confirm there is something behind the 1968 stone.

We will be removing the time capsule this fall. The contents will be revealed 50 years later during Unified Arts Night on February 20, 2020. Put the date on your calendar and join us for UA night and more 50th Birthday celebrations!
