PICTURES AND REPORTS

FANFARE BRASS TRIO FROM THE VERMONT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Three brass playing musicians (Horn - Ron Wold, Trombone - Bear Irwin, Trumpet - Glendon Ingalls) from the Vermont Symphony Orchestra came to demonstrate a variety of brass instruments to 4th and 5th graders. The hope for their appearance was that members of the student audience might be inspired to consider learning to play one of these instruments. The show only lasted 25 minutes, but in that time period, the musicians managed to captivate the student's attention and put on a remarkable display of skill and enthusiasm. The highlight of the show were demonstrations of the impressive musical sounds made using instruments built out of plastic garden hoses and funnels that can be purchased at a hardware store.  LINK TO 31 PICTURES

NAVIGATORS CLASSROOM (STANTON)
Students were removing seeds from several pumpkins at the time these photographs were taken. While waiting for their turn to do so, students were involved in a range of playtime activities.  LINK TO 17 PICTURES. The photos were taken in late October. 1024-2019

HARVEST OF THE MONTH
St. Albans City School celebrates Harvest of the Month where one Vermont-grown vegetable or fruit is celebrated and served in our cafeteria. This month sweet potatoes are the focus.

November | Sweet Potatoes
Happy November!  The leaves have fallen, the temperatures are dropping, and the daylight is disappearing.  What better time to nourish your body with this sweet and starchy root vegetable?  Sweet Potatoes are rich in fiber and contain an array of vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, selenium, and vitamins B and C.  They also contain an antioxidant called beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A once consumed.  Though many recognize sweet potatoes for their bright orange insides, they can also be white, yellow, or purple depending on the variety.
