TIME CAPSULE MODELS VOTED ON
On Monday, Ms. Wight came to the cafeteria and had students vote on their picks of three Time Capsule models. The goal was to see how accurately determine if students' ideas of the time capsule size end up matching reality. Ms. Wight supplied sample boxes, one of which matches the actual size of the time capsule. Students placed their vote in the bucket next to the model they thought was the best fit for the task. 11-4-2019. Ms. Wight will be conducting additional votes in the coming days.

RENAISSANCE
Ms. Lovely had her students identifying regions of the world on maps they spent time coloring in. They created a travel plan to regions of the world and worked on drawing and coloring in flags for those key locations.  LINK TO 6 PICTURES

RENAISSANCE MATH
Mr. Jetter had students practicing how to interpret and label graphs. The graph presented to the class was without labels and had to be examined carefully to be understood. Each student had an opportunity to think up a scenario in which the graph's data made sense. Doing so effectively required an understanding of how line graphs on an x and y axis work. LINK TO 11 PICTURES

INCREDIBLES WRITING CLASS

Students had to use effective structure on a writing task in Ms. Muir's classroom. LINK TO 17 PICTURES

BASKETBALL SCORING TESTS FOR ELKS CLUB SHOOTOUT
Ms. Jarvis and Mr. Branon tested their students for the number of baskets scored in 15 tries. Three boys and three girls with the best scores in three age groups from thIS school will be chosen to enter further steps in the overall Elks Club contest. Here are a few pictures of students working on their 15 shot assessment on Tuesday 11-5-2019.  LINK TO 10 PICTURES

HARVEST OF THE MONTH
St. Albans City School celebrates Harvest of the Month where one Vermont-grown vegetable or fruit is celebrated and served in our cafeteria. This month sweet potatoes are the focus.

November | Sweet Potatoes
Happy November!  The leaves have fallen, the temperatures are dropping, and the daylight is disappearing.  What better time to nourish your body with this sweet and starchy root vegetable?  Sweet Potatoes are rich in fiber and contain an array of vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, selenium, and vitamins B and C.  They also contain an antioxidant called beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A once consumed.  Though many recognize sweet potatoes for their bright orange insides, they can also be white, yellow, or purple depending on the variety.
