DISCOVERY'S RISEVT VISIT
Over the last few weeks, Mr. Moretti from RiseVT has been visiting classrooms around the school. Those classrooms or communities who have checked off at least six of 15 healthy RiseVT activities receive a fun visit by Mr. Moretti. He brings games and activities that reward the choices being made. In the case of Discovery, the whole team repaired to the lower soccer field for a relay game using tiny inflated balls. Pairs of students had to pick up balls one by one and pass them on to other pairs without using their hands and fingers. Each ball had to be passed on to three other pairs before being dropped into a space defined by a small hula-hoop. Check out the LINK TO 48 PICTURES of their game. Mr. Moretti has a way of making any game a blast. He has shared the LINK TO HIS PAGE OF GAMES AND ACTIVITIES that he uses with schools around the county.

BOOTCAMP WITH SERGEANT KITTELL. 11-6-2019
A group of Team USA students have signed up for a bootcamp experience with teacher, and former military sergeant, Mr. Kittell. They are learning what it means to have each other's backs, to serve selflessly, to work hard and to pay attention to detail. They were photographed gaining an overview of their responsibilities followed by time assembling and marching outdoors in the brisk fall air. At each assembly point, they were given a little more than a minute to dash there and line up in appropriate order. Sergeant Kittell trained them on standing, pivoting and marching techniques. Silence was required througout except when asking specific questions to Sergeant Kittell. LINK TO 17 PICTURES.

HARVEST OF THE MONTH
St. Albans City School celebrates Harvest of the Month where one Vermont-grown vegetable or fruit is celebrated and served in our cafeteria. This month sweet potatoes are the focus.

November | Sweet Potatoes
Happy November! The leaves have fallen, the temperatures are dropping, and the daylight is disappearing. What better time to nourish your body with this sweet and starchy root vegetable? Sweet Potatoes are rich in fiber and contain an array of vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, selenium, and vitamins B and C. They also contain an antioxidant called beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A once consumed. Though many recognize sweet potatoes for their bright orange insides, they can also be white, yellow, or purple depending on the variety.
