FAMILY LUNCHEON PILOT PROJECT
For the 2020-2021 school year, St Albans City School is looking to start a new tradition of monthly family luncheons.  These would occur on different days of the week each month, in the hopes that over the year many of our families can join their student(s) for one of these events.

This February, and again in May, we will be running a pilot of the Family Luncheon Program that will begin monthly next year. If you want to learn more, then check out this LINK TO THE FULL ARTICLE on the pilot project. This article was published in the Messenger on February 8th.

SNOWSHOES IN ACTION
The students in Ms. Laidman's Navigators classroom headed outside on Monday (2-10-2020) to enjoy the deep snow. They used the school snowshoes that were purchased for big snow days like this or for field trips to areas with a lot of snow. The snow shoes have been taken to Jay Peak on ski days for students not interested in skiing.  LINK TO FOUR PICTURES

OWLS VISITED KINDERGARTEN CLASSROOMS
On Tuesday, February 12th, kindergarteners learned about owls from an expert associated with the Vermont Institute of Natural Science. He brought three owls to show students, all of whom had been badly injured in the past. Since they are unable to take care of themselves in the wild, they are now cared for by specialists and brought around to schools for educational purposes. These pictures were taken in Ms. Laidman's Navigators classroom. LINK TO PICTURES

TRIUMPH PAPER ROCKET SCIENCE PROJECT
Ms. Draper supplied students with data collection sheets and a rocket ship pattern to use. Each pair of students made four paper rockets with rocket bodies of different diameters. Each patterned piece of paper was wrapped around pencils of different thicknesses  to achieve these differences. Students then used straws to blow each paper rocket 3 times down their nearby hallway for maximum distance. Observations had to be made about each rocket's flight. Each pair came to conclusions and shared them with the class.  LINK TO 18 PICTURES
