Dear St. Albans City School Families,
This link (Click Here) will take you to a short survey where you can tell us how things are going in your home, and how we might be able to better support your family. The survey will be open until Friday, May 8th.
Thank you for taking some time to give us feedback.

EMBRYOLOGY
Traditionally, each Spring the kindergarten learning communities have incubated chicken eggs and hatched them so that little children can learn about embryology. Last year the kindergarten learning teams partnered with Team USA and Mr. Rouleau to retain some of the hatchlings at the end of the school year for the school’s chicken program. We now have a chicken house and yard to keep those chickens safe. Visiting the school’s chickens is an extremely popular activity for all our school’s age groups.
With school taking place online, we have decided to continue providing learning about embryology and chickens (ducks and turkeys too). Ms. Lawyer, the other kindergarten teachers, and Mr. Rouleau will be sharing updates on incubation and hatching in the announcements over the coming weeks. Mr. Rouleau started us off by providing these two videos. The first shows the system of incubation and the second show the eggs being turned and cared for in the incubators. Enjoy checking on the eggs and learning about embryology each day.

LOOKING FOR WALKING WEDNESDAY PICTURES DURING THIS MAY
Normally we have school-organized Walking Wednesdays each week of May. While we can’t hold these official walks while schooling takes place at home, we do encourage finding some way to get out and walk and bike each day and especially on Wednesdays. Please send in pictures of students/staff walking and biking safely so that they can be posted each week this month. Send to mcraib@maplerun.org

ARTWORK
A Navigators student and an Explorers student created some art for presents for their classroom teachers and for teacher appreciation week. They taped a shaped down, used a makeup sponge (it is all they had, and they didn't want to use brushes) to blot acrylic paint down on the paper, used watered down paint to create the white spots and then pulled the shape off. They were proud of results.

This is the time of year where St. Albans City School often has spirit week celebrations. Mr. Brown, from the Bridges community, put out a call for spirit pictures on Facebook this week. His suggestion was for Monday to be crazy hair/hat day. Tuesday, generation day 60's 70's etc., Wednesday is sports day, Thursday is favorite charity, Friday is Essential worker day.

St. Albans City School families and staff members, if you have anything positive to share on the announcements that show what students and adults are doing to promote learning and a sense of community in this time of uncertainty, then please send it on to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org. Please add a short descriptive note to go with your content. It would also be helpful if you wrote that you are providing consent to share your images, video clips, artwork, etc... Thank you.
