ZOOM FAMILY MEETING REPORT
Principal Cavallo led a zoom meeting for families of St. Albans City School students on Tuesday evening 5-19-2020. During the meeting, she shared findings from a recently conducted survey of SACS families about distance learning. The slide show from that meeting summarizes the content of what was learned and is shared as a PDF document here.

PICTURES FROM FAMILIES AND FROM SCHOOL

TEAM USA TROUT PROJECT
Each year teachers and students from Team USA oversee the hatching of trout eggs and the growth of the resulting fish until release in local tributaries. This year several students were fully engaged in the project until everyone had to head home for distance learning. Custodian, Richard Barratt, and science teacher, Mr. Rouleau took over feeding and care until the young trout were recently released.  Mr. Rouleau summarized this year's trout project in a short video.

INSPIRED BY THE SCHOOL EMBRYOLOGY PROJECT

These pictures came from the family of one of our instructors and parent at the school. "We found this egg out for our walk. It was cracked, so not viable, but a cool find as it was. We brought it home and candled it. Nothing had grown before it cracked."

MINI MS. DUPONT "HELPED" A STUDENT COLLECT WOOD
This mini Ms. Dupont (one of the 1st-grade teachers) assisted one of the Explorers students cutting and collecting wood for a fire pit. The last picture shows the huge pile of tree limbs that were gathered for burning by the end of the day of work.

SPIRIT CELEBRATIONS CONTINUE FOR THIS FAMILY

The family of this 7th-grade Renaissance student, 5th-grade Discovery student, and 1st-grade Investigator student provided three pictures last week for their own spirit week. This week they sent in four more fun spirit celebration photos. Are there other families out there that care to share similar photos?

MESSAGE FROM THE LIBRARY

Since the in-school part of the year ended somewhat abruptly, we realize that students may still have library materials that they no longer need or have finished reading. If you wish to return them, we urge you to drop them by the school.

If your student is ready to check out other books, the online catalog can be accessed here (https://sacslibrary.follettdestiny.com/common/welcome.jsp?context=saas20_4448088) or on the City School webpage under Family Resources. If you prefer, I am happy to help find resources and/or give recommendations of enjoyable literature. I’ve had the privilege to get to know most of our students, and so may be able to find some books particularly tailored to their taste. At any rate, feel free to contact me anytime by email at swade@maplerun.org and we will prepare your order for pickup!

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
Click on the links below to go to a Prezi on the topic of the week.  The counseling staff have made some excellent mental health videos that are relevant to specific age groups.

What is a Prezi? It is a presentation tool that is used as an alternative to traditional slide making programs such as PowerPoint. Prezi makes use of one large canvas that allows the view to pan and zoom to various parts of the canvas where ideas are emphasized and presented, often in a video format.
